Zealand and Generate team up on AI-designed obesity treatments

Zealand Pharma and Generate Biomedicines announced a collaboration to develop AI-designed multispecific protein treatments for obesity and other metabolic diseases.

The agreement initially covers two programs, with an option to add a third. Generate will lead research through candidate selection; Zealand will handle clinical development, regulatory submissions, and worldwide commercialization.

Generate will receive $30 million upfront and up to $35 million in early preclinical milestones. It may also earn nearly $1.2 billion in development, regulatory, and commercial milestones, plus tiered royalties on sales.

The deal broadens Zealand’s drug-development approach beyond its existing peptide and small-molecule work. The companies have not disclosed the specific biological targets.
