Rakovina secures exclusivity for AI-optimized KT-5000 profile

On October 14, 2026, Rakovina Therapeutics announced an amended and extended research agreement with Variational AI, securing exclusivity over the target profile for its KT-5000 ATR-inhibitor program.

Variational AI agreed not to design or provide other parties compounds intended to match Rakovina’s defined combination of potency, selectivity, drug-like properties and brain penetration during the agreed term.

Rakovina will receive further AI-powered lead-optimization cycles through year-end at no additional cost. Five cycles had been completed at the time of the announcement; Rakovina retains control over which candidates proceed to laboratory testing.

In exchange for the extended arrangement and exclusivity, Variational AI will receive increased milestone payments if a drug candidate is nominated and if the program is out-licensed.

KT-5000 is an early-stage small-molecule ATR-inhibitor program aimed at developing candidates that can reach the central nervous system, potentially addressing brain tumors. The announcement concerns research and discovery—not a clinical candidate or demonstrated patient benefit.
