Gilead’s oral UC drug posts encouraging Phase 2 results

Gilead’s once-daily oral drug emvistegrast (GS-1427) met the primary endpoint in the Phase 2 SWIFT trial for moderately to severely active ulcerative colitis (UC).

At week 12, 66% of patients taking the 200 mg dose achieved a clinical response, versus 37% on placebo. Clinical remission was 31% versus 8%, respectively.

The study enrolled 238 adults and tested three doses. The reported induction results are promising, but the trial is ongoing, with maintenance data still to come.

Gilead plans to start a Phase 3 monotherapy study in 2027 and sees the drug as a possible foundation for future combination treatments.

The “foundational asset” description reflects analyst enthusiasm:
emvistegrast targets the established α4β7 pathway and could offer a convenient oral alternative to injectable or infused options. It remains investigational, and its benefits and risks need confirmation in larger trials.
