Genentech licenses Alector’s preclinical Parkinson’s candidate for $100 million upfront

On October 5, 2026, Genentech, part of Roche, agreed to pay Alector $100 million upfront for exclusive worldwide rights to develop and commercialize AL050, an experimental preclinical therapy for Parkinson’s disease and other neurodegenerative conditions.

The deal could bring Alector up to $1.17 billion in additional development, regulatory and commercial milestone payments, plus tiered royalties on sales. The milestone payments are contingent, not guaranteed.

AL050 combines an engineered version of the GCase enzyme with Alector’s Alector Brain Carrier technology, which is designed to help deliver therapies across the blood-brain barrier. The program aims to address GCase deficiency, a contributor to Parkinson’s risk—especially among people with GBA1 mutations.

Genentech will take responsibility for development, regulatory work, manufacturing and commercialization. Alector retains ownership of its brain-delivery platform for use elsewhere in its pipeline.

The candidate is still preclinical, so the deal is a bet on its potential rather than evidence that it is safe or effective in people. Alector said the payment extends its cash runway into 2029.
