Forbion raises record €2.3 billion with Eli Lilly among its backers

Forbion, a Netherlands-based life sciences venture firm, raised €2.3 billion (about $2.6 billion) across two funds—its largest fundraising haul to date.

Eli Lilly is among the named backers, alongside Dutch pension investors MN and PGGM, Germany’s KfW Capital and the Kauffman Foundation. The raise included both existing and new investors.

The funds are Forbion Growth Opportunities Fund IV, focused on later-stage biopharma, and Forbion Ventures Fund VIII, focused on therapeutics companies at various stages.

Together, the funds could support around 30 companies; Forbion says it has already made initial investments. The fundraising brings the firm’s assets under management to about €7.5 billion.

The reported total exceeds the roughly €2.09 billion raised for the two predecessor funds combined.
