The reported disruption is from severe flooding at Zydus Hospira Oncology Pvt. Ltd. (ZHOPL), a Pfizer–Zydus joint-venture plant in Gujarat that makes sterile injectable generic cancer medicines—not a newly announced permanent closure. The facility remains closed while damage is assessed.
Pfizer’s October 2026 update gives a best-case estimate of phased new supply beginning in mid-to-late 2028. Pfizer says damage affected laboratories, production areas and equipment, and that restoring operations must meet sterile-manufacturing standards.
The affected portfolio includes generic chemotherapy drugs used for several cancers. ASHP reporting says the flood has contributed to worsening U.S. chemotherapy shortages; some products were already scarce, and shortages could delay treatment for some patients.
Pfizer says it is assessing alternate manufacturing sites and third-party suppliers. Its update also advises customers to identify alternative sources, noting that no new shipments are planned from the affected site under the current outlook.
