EyePoint said it will cut about 53% of its workforce after its investigational drug DURAVYU missed the primary endpoint in the Phase 3 LUCIA trial for wet age-related macular degeneration (AMD).
LUCIA was the second pivotal wet AMD trial to miss its primary goal; the earlier LUGANO study also failed to show that DURAVYU was non-inferior to aflibercept, the active comparator.
The company plans to end both wet AMD trials before their planned second year is complete, while conducting further analyses of the results.
EyePoint is redirecting resources to its late-stage DURAVYU program for diabetic macular edema (DME). It expects the restructuring to save about $30 million annually.
Most job cuts are expected in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the reductions planned to be completed in the first half of 2027.
