AstraZeneca opened a new global R&D centre in Kendall Square, Cambridge, Massachusetts, on 5 October 2026—“the other Cambridge” from its UK headquarters city.
The 18-storey, 570,000-square-foot facility at 290 Binney Street includes ten floors of interconnected laboratories. It will work alongside AstraZeneca’s nearby genomic medicine site and is expected to bring nearly 2,000 researchers and scientists together.
Research will span cancer, cell therapy, chronic and rare diseases, with areas including breast cancer, COPD, obesity and metabolic disease. The labs will use robotics, continuous automation and AI to support research and drug development.
AstraZeneca says the Massachusetts project represents more than $1 billion of investment and will grow its state workforce by over 50% in the coming years. It is part of the company’s broader $50 billion US investment plan.
