Antheia has received a conditional commitment for a direct, long-term loan of up to $80 million from the Department of War’s Office of Strategic Capital to help establish U.S. production of pharmaceutical ingredients.
The proposed funding, alongside private capital, is intended to bring key starting materials and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) used in generic medicines onshore. Antheia uses engineered yeast fermentation to make these ingredients.
The loan has not closed and the money has not been disbursed. Antheia must meet financial, legal, technical, investment and due-diligence requirements first.
The federal announcement does not specify a manufacturing site, production capacity or timeline. Trump separately mentioned a possible $100 million investment in a Winchester, Kentucky, facility, conditional on Republicans winning the midterms; public details do not establish that this pledge is part of the $80 million loan.
