Roche has signed a strategic research collaboration with Atavistik Bio potentially worth nearly $2 billion to discover oral small-molecule treatments for cardiovascular, renal and metabolic (CVRM) diseases.
Atavistik will receive $70 million upfront and could earn up to $1.9 billion in research, development and commercial milestones, plus tiered royalties on any approved medicines.
The partnership will use Atavistik’s AMPS platform to identify previously overlooked—or allosteric—binding pockets on proteins, potentially enabling more selective drugs against targets that have been difficult to modulate conventionally.
Atavistik will lead discovery and early research. Roche will assume responsibility for preclinical and clinical development, regulatory work and commercialization.
The agreement covers multiple targets, but the companies have not disclosed the number of programs or development timelines. Atavistik will continue pursuing its own hematology pipeline, including ATV-1601 for hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia.
