Roche licenses Simcere’s trispecific T-cell engager in deal worth up to $1.53 billion

Roche has signed an exclusive global licensing agreement with Simcere Zaiming for SIM0660, a trispecific T-cell engager targeting CD79a, CD19, and CD3.

Simcere will receive $75 million upfront and may receive up to approximately $1.53 billion in total payments, including development and commercial milestones, plus tiered royalties reaching the double-digit range on future net sales.

SIM0660 is intended primarily for B-cell malignancies, including newly diagnosed and relapsed/refractory B-cell lymphoma. Its broader potential could extend to other B-cell-mediated diseases, such as autoimmune disorders, although Roche’s current focus is oncology.

The molecule is an early-stage asset:
reports differ on whether it is described as preclinical or in early clinical testing, so its safety and efficacy remain unproven.

The agreement marks another major China-originated licensing deal for Roche and adds to Simcere’s growing out-licensing track record. It follows Simcere’s earlier, roughly $1 billion collaboration with AbbVie on another trispecific T-cell engager.

Strategically, SIM0660 uses two B-cell targets—CD79a and CD19—alongside CD3-mediated T-cell activation. The dual-targeting design is intended to improve tumor-cell engagement while potentially limiting cytokine release, but this will need to be validated clinically.
