Novo Nordisk has signed an exclusive global licensing and collaboration agreement with Swedish drug-delivery biotech Nanexa, potentially worth €1.165 billion ($1.3 billion).
The deal covers Nanexa’s PharmaShell technology, which uses an ultra-thin coating on drug particles to control release and create long-acting injectable formulations.
The partnership covers up to five development programs for obesity, type 2 diabetes and other cardiometabolic diseases, targeting monthly or quarterly dosing rather than the weekly injections common today.
Nanexa is eligible for up to €615 million in upfront, development and regulatory payments; the remainder is tied to sales milestones. It will also receive low-single-digit royalties on global net sales.
Novo will lead development and commercialization. Nanexa’s shares reportedly more than doubled after the announcement, rising about 122% in early trading.
