Lonza and CordenPharma expand US and injectable manufacturing capacity

Lonza announced plans to build a large-scale commercial spray-drying facility at its Bend, Oregon, US site. The facility is intended to provide commercial PSD-4 capacity and strengthen Lonza’s position in spray-dried formulations for complex therapies.

The Bend investment expands Lonza’s US manufacturing footprint beyond its existing mammalian and drug-product capabilities, including the Vacaville, California, site acquired from Roche.

CordenPharma announced a €80 million, multiyear investment at its Caponago, Italy, facility. The program will add aseptic fill-finish lines and expand annual capacity to approximately 500 million sterile injectable units.

The moves reflect strong CDMO demand for specialized manufacturing, particularly complex oral formulations, sterile injectables, and flexible commercial-scale capacity.

Together, the announcements underscore a broader capacity race among European CDMOs to localize supply, secure long-term pharmaceutical contracts, and support rising demand for advanced therapies.
