Lilly’s amylin–Zepbound combination shows stronger weight loss in mid-stage trial

Eli Lilly reported that its experimental combination, EloraTZP, produced greater weight loss and blood-sugar improvement than Zepbound (tirzepatide) alone in a 48-week Phase 2b trial of 367 adults with obesity or overweight and type 2 diabetes.

At the highest tested dose—eloralintide 9 mg plus tirzepatide 15 mg—participants lost an average of 23.3% of their body weight, or about 54 pounds. The tirzepatide-only group lost 14.8% on average.

A1C, a measure of average blood sugar, fell by up to 2.9% with the combination, versus up to 2.4% with tirzepatide alone.

The combination had a tolerability trade-off:
10.8% to 27% of participants across combination doses stopped treatment because of side effects, compared with 2.9% on tirzepatide alone. Reported side effects were mainly gastrointestinal and generally mild to moderate.

Lilly said it plans to begin Phase 3 trials in the fourth quarter of 2026. The findings are from a mid-stage study; the combination remains investigational.
