GSK plans to wind down its vaccine manufacturing site in Dresden, Germany, citing falling global demand for traditional egg-based flu vaccines and resulting overcapacity.
Flu-vaccine production will be consolidated at GSK’s facility in Ste-Foy, Canada, which the company says can meet expected future demand more sustainably and competitively.
The Dresden site’s production is expected to end in 2027, with the full closure planned by mid-2028, according to German reports.
Around 641–650 employees could be affected. GSK says it will work with employee representatives on a transition and support plan.
The Dresden facility has produced vaccines for roughly 115 years and currently makes flu and hepatitis vaccines. GSK says Germany will remain an important market and business location.
