Evommune abandons hope for EVO756 as an itch drug after latest Phase 2 failure

Evommune’s oral MRGPRX2 antagonist EVO756 failed its Phase 2b trial in moderate-to-severe atopic dermatitis, missing the primary endpoint of improving EASI at Week 12 and falling short on secondary itch-related measures.

The setback follows an earlier Phase 2 failure in chronic spontaneous urticaria, where EVO756 also missed its primary endpoint, leading the company to halt further development of the drug in CSU.

Despite the string of misses in itch/urticaria indications, Evommune said it will keep studying EVO756 in other areas, including migraine, and noted the drug’s doses were safe and generally well tolerated.

EVO756 had shown earlier signs of activity in chronic inducible urticaria, but the latest AD failure appears to have ended hopes that MRGPRX2 blockade would become a broad treatment for itch-related skin disease.
