Contineum Therapeutics said Johnson & Johnson’s JNJ-5120/PIPE-307, a selective M1 receptor antagonist, failed to meet the primary endpoint in a Phase 2 trial for major depressive disorder.
The MOONLIGHT-1 study measured change in MADRS total score at Day 5 versus placebo and did not show a statistically significant benefit.
The drug was reported as well-tolerated with no new safety signals, and J&J is still reviewing the full dataset, including exploratory endpoints, before deciding next steps.
This is the second recent mid-stage setback for the asset:
a prior Phase 2 study in relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis also failed to show efficacy.
