BirchBioMed, a clinical-stage biotech developing treatments for scarring and autoimmune diseases, has filed to register its shares with the SEC and proceed with a direct listing on the Nasdaq under the ticker BRBM.
The direct listing will involve up to about 29.9 million shares being sold by existing shareholders; BirchBioMed itself will not raise new capital from the listing.
BirchBioMed was founded in 2015 in King City, Canada, and holds exclusive licenses from the University of British Columbia for its antifibrotic technology FS2 (kynurenic acid) and its autoimmune platform AI‑001 (FS2 plus cell therapy).
The company’s lead candidate FS2 is a kynurenic‑acid-based therapeutic that targets scarring on a molecular level, with ongoing mid‑to‑late‑stage trials in burns, keloid scars, pulmonary fibrosis, and related conditions, and its autoimmune platform shows promise for reversing Type 1 diabetes and alopecia areata in preclinical models.
Recent regulatory milestones include Health Canada approval of a topical FS2‑based scar cream and U.S. FDA orphan drug designation for FS2 in idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis, ahead of the planned Nasdaq listing.
