Lilly’s Foundayo Oral GLP-1 Prescriptions Cross 40,000

Eli Lilly’s oral GLP-1 drug Foundayo (orforglipron) reportedly surpassed 40,000 U.S. prescriptions, marking a notable acceleration after a relatively modest launch.

The prescription figures are based on IQVIA estimates and may undercount demand because some telehealth prescriptions are not captured. Earlier industry estimates suggested actual weekly volume could be materially higher.

Foundayo’s reported script growth follows approximately 1,390 prescriptions in its initial week, 3,707 in week two, 5,612 in week three, and 7,335 in week four.

Lilly has said more than 20,000 patients began treatment within the first few weeks, while the company highlighted more than 8,000 prescribers, including many new to oral GLP-1 therapy.

The pill competes with Novo Nordisk’s oral Wegovy. Foundayo’s positioning is convenience:
it is taken once daily and does not require food or water restrictions.

The early momentum is strategically important for Lilly, although Foundayo remains well behind oral Wegovy’s reported prescription scale. Analysts will focus on whether the 40,000-plus level reflects sustained demand or an initial launch effect.
