Genentech expands Oregon manufacturing while Bavarian Nordic delays Lyme vaccine trial

Genentech, a Roche subsidiary, announced an approximately $750 million investment in a new device fill-finish manufacturing facility at its Hillsboro, Oregon, campus.

The expansion will add end-to-end production capabilities for advanced drug-delivery devices, including prefilled syringes and autoinjectors.

The project is expected to create about 250 permanent high-wage manufacturing jobs and 200 construction jobs, with commercial operations targeted for 2031.

Bavarian Nordic has delayed the start of clinical work on its Lyme disease vaccine candidate. Earlier plans called for a Phase 1 trial in 2026, but the company has cited delays affecting Lyme disease and other early-stage programs.

The delay pushes back development timelines for a recombinant protein-based vaccine candidate that Bavarian Nordic says uses self-assembling protein-particle technology.
