BioNTech SE has appointed Guido Oelkers, Ph.D., as its new Chief Executive Officer, succeeding cofounder Prof. Ugur Sahin, M.D.
Oelkers will join BioNTech from Swedish Orphan Biovitrum AB (Sobi), where he has served as CEO since 2017 and more than quadrupled company revenues between 2017 and 2026.
He is expected to take office by February 1, 2027, at the latest, as part of a planned leadership transition that will see BioNTech shift further toward oncology and multiple approved medicines by 2030.
The appointment follows a comprehensive selection process led by BioNTech’s Supervisory Board, while the company continues to search for a new Chief Medical Officer to replace Özlem Türeci.
