4basebio and Genezen collaborate on synthetic DNA for viral-vector manufacturing

On 26 August 2026, 4basebio PLC and Genezen announced an expanded, non-exclusive strategic collaboration focused on using synthetic, cell-free DNA in viral-vector manufacturing.

Genezen will provide drug developers access to 4basebio’s hpDNA® products in Research Use Only, High-Quality, and GMP grades, supporting programs from early development through clinical and commercial manufacturing.

The companies will also cooperate on commercial activities, including sales efforts and technical presentations.

4basebio’s enzymatic manufacturing process produces DNA without bacterial backbones or antibiotic-resistance genes, potentially reducing contamination risks and simplifying regulatory considerations.

In AAV production, 4basebio says hpDNA has achieved comparable titers to plasmid DNA while using about 30% less DNA mass and transfection reagent, which could lower material use and improve process efficiency.

The collaboration is intended to shorten the path from genetic sequence design to viral-vector production and help gene-therapy developers scale programs toward the clinic and commercial manufacturing.
