Sarepta Taps Former AbbVie and Tessera CEO Michael Severino as New CEO to Lead Duchenne Drugmaker's Turnaround
Sarepta Therapeutics has appointed Michael Severino, M.D., as its new chief executive officer, effective July 28, 2026, replacing Doug Ingram, who will retire and remain in an advisory role through the end of 2026; Severino previously served as CEO of Tessera Therapeutics and as Vice Chairman and President at AbbVie, where he oversaw research and development and corporate strategy; his experience includes leadership roles at Amgen and Merck, and he brings over 25 years of biopharmaceutical experience to Sarepta, which is seeking a turnaround amid regulatory and commercial challenges in its Duchenne muscular dystrophy treatments, including the gene therapy Elevidys.
