Johnson & Johnson is paying $785 million upfront to partner with Sail Biomedicines, including a $465 million equity investment, to advance in vivo CAR-T therapies for immune-mediated diseases.
J&J has secured an exclusive option to acquire Sail for an additional $2.58 billion, making the potential total deal value around $3.5 billion if the option is exercised.
The collaboration centers on Sail’s lead in vivo CAR-T program, SAIL-0839, which targets CD4+ and CD8+ T cells using an AI-driven, circular ’endless RNA’ platform delivered via targeted nanoparticles, aiming at an immune system reset in autoimmune diseases.
