Bristol Myers Squibb CEO Chris Boerner has stated the company does not feel any compulsion to chase M&A deals this year despite limited dealmaking activity, citing a strong late-stage pipeline and disciplined capital allocation strategy.
BMS spent about $30 billion on deals over the past two years, including Orbital Therapeutics and 2seventy bio, and has been relatively quiet in 2026 apart from smaller licensing deals with China's Hengrui Pharma and Janux Therapeutics.
Boerner reiterated that business development remains a top capital allocation priority and the company has financial flexibility to pursue deals that strategically enhance near-term growth and long-term portfolio depth in its core therapeutic areas.
