WuXi AppTec has been formally added to the Pentagon’s list of Chinese military companies (the 1260H list), which triggers the U.S. Biosecure Act’s restrictions on its biotechnology services and equipment used in federally funded research and contracts.
The designation was announced on June 8, 2026, as part of a broader update that includes major Chinese tech names such as Alibaba, Baidu, BYD, and others across biotech, AI, and EV sectors.
WuXi rejects the Pentagon’s characterization, calling the rationale ‘factually incorrect’ and reiterating that it is not owned, controlled by, or affiliated with the Chinese military or any defense entity.
Under the Biosecure Act’s structure, entities on the 1260H list that are involved in biotechnology services or equipment automatically become Companies of Concern (BCCs), barring them from U.S. federal grants, contracts, and related activities involving such equipment or services.
Analysts and industry bodies note that being on the 1260H list not only threatens U.S. business and grants but also raises the risk of investment curbs, as U.S. investors may be compelled to divest stakes in listed firms.
