WuXi AppTec Added to Pentagon's List of Companies Linked to Chinese Military: What You Need to Know

The Pentagon has added WuXi AppTec to its updated Section 1260H list of "Chinese military companies," which it says are linked to China's military or defense industrial base.

WuXi AppTec is described as a major Chinese pharmaceutical contractor and contract research, development, and manufacturing organization (CRDMO) based in Shanghai.

The Pentagon's notice links WuXi AppTec to a Chinese state‑owned assets supervisory commission and to the People's Liberation Army (PLA) and China's defense industrial sector, though WuXi AppTec denies any military control or affiliation.

The designation means that U.S. defense agencies are barred from directly contracting with WuXi AppTec and, starting in 2027, from procuring its products or services through third parties.

WuXi AppTec has rejected the Pentagon's decision, calling it a "clearly a mistake" and saying it intends to challenge the designation and pursue legal remedies to be removed from the list.

The move follows and is aligned with the U.S. BioSecure Act, which bars U.S. government agencies from contracting with entities that use services from companies on the Pentagon's "Chinese military companies" list.

The addition to the list has rattled WuXi AppTec's investors:
its shares have fallen sharply and analysts warn that the blacklisting could complicate R&D collaborations with U.S. drugmakers and raise data‑security and national‑security concerns.
