Takeda expects $2.5B hit after Amitiza antitrust verdict, with plans to appeal

Takeda expects to record a provision of about JPY 402.5 billion (roughly $2.5 billion at prevailing exchange rates) related to an Amitiza antitrust verdict in the U.S.

A federal jury awarded $884.9 million in single damages to wholesalers and retailers in the Amitiza litigation, which is set to be tripled under U.S. antitrust law to nearly $2.5 billion.

Takeda has stated it will vigorously pursue post‑trial motions and appeal the verdict and will seek a stay of execution while the appeal proceeds.

The company is revising its FY2025 financial statements to reflect this provision as a subsequent event but indicates its FY2025 Core results and FY2026 financial forecast remain materially unchanged, except for potential impacts to adjusted free cash flow.
