FDA panel strongly backs Moderna's mRNA flu vaccine for older adults, with final decision expected by early August 2026.
FDA advisory panel unanimously recommends Moderna's mRNA flu vaccine mFlusiva for individuals aged 50 and older, with a favorable risk-benefit profile found for both 50-64 and 65+ age groups.
The panel identified no major safety concerns and noted that the mRNA vaccine showed roughly 27% greater efficacy than standard flu shots in older adults.
Despite the strong endorsement, the vaccine still requires final FDA authorization and CDC advisory approval before it can be widely available to Americans this fall.
