LB Pharmaceuticals launched an upsized IPO, raising $285 million, exceeding its initial target of $228 million to fund late-stage development of its schizophrenia drug candidate LB-102135.
LB-102 is a modified version of amisulpride, a dopamine receptor antagonist first developed by Sanofi in the 1980s and marketed as Solian outside the U.S. It has enhanced ability to cross the blood-brain barrier compared to the original molecule345.
Proceeds from the IPO will primarily fund a pivotal Phase 3 trial in acute schizophrenia expected to begin in the first quarter of 2026, with preliminary data anticipated in the second half of 2027123.
Additional funds will support a mid-stage (Phase 2) clinical trial in bipolar depression, planned to start in early 2026, and development of other formulations, including injectable LB-102123.
LB Pharmaceuticals had less than $15 million in cash at the end of June 2025 and conducted layoffs earlier in the year to preserve cash reserves until the IPO146.
Top-line Phase 2 trial data for LB-102 in schizophrenia showed statistically significant improvement in symptom severity compared to placebo after four weeks of treatment, supporting advancement to Phase 3145.
LB-102 is also being considered for potential applications in other neuropsychiatric diseases such as bipolar mania and Alzheimer's disease-related psychosis2.
LB Pharmaceuticals' IPO is notable as one of the first biotech IPOs after a prolonged market freeze in the sector36.
